Despite not having a particularly good head for heights - Fred Dibnah he is not - the photographer decided this opportunity was too good to miss. Having observed several other staff get part way up and decide "that was quite high enough thank-you", there was an element of determination to reach the top. However, about half way up, following the realisation of just how far the ground had receded, this determination suddenly "left the premises", but fortunately was persuaded to return a short while later! Looking along the Manchester line, we see the Independent lines emerging and snaking towards Sydney Bridge Junction where they become the Slow lines, and crossovers allow trains to switch between them and the Fast lines." /></a>

To the left is one of the material stacking grounds, now virtually empty but for a few sections of scrap track from the old layout, and which now of course is part of the Crewe Heritage Centre site. The Liverpool Independent lines can also be seen, running alongside the main lines, as mentioned previously the Down Independent is hidden by a scaffolding 'umberella'." /></a>

Well, not quite, but this industrial unit type building is what passes for one these days. The colour scheme does have an obvious signalling connection though, and what is not apparent is that the doors are painted like 'Distant' signals." /></a>
